Scientific description and computerization of archives

Researchers of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Department of the Scientific Library of Moscow State University, the Orthodox Svyato-Tikhonovsky University and the Laboratory for Computational Lexicography are working on the scientific description of I. A. Ilyin’s personal archives.

The archives of great Russian philosopher Ivan Alexandrovich Ilyin (1883 – 1954) were returned from Michigan State University where they were kept from 1964 and up to May 2006. On 20 November they were sent to Moscow University.

Ilyin wrote fundamental research works on philosophy, law, political sciences, philology and the history of Russia. He discovered unknown facts in the history of the White movement in Russia and Russian-German relations. There is a lot of material devoted to creative work of I. S. Shmelyov, S. V. Rakhmaninov, N. K. Metner, F. I. Shalyapin and others. The conception of scientific description and computerization of archives was developed within the framework of this project.

The work on the project will be accomplished by creation of full scientific inventory of the archives and its electronic version. Thus the archives will be accessible to all the researchers and to all those interested.
