Education and Professional Training; University Degrees

Graduated from the Department of Structural and Practical Linguistics, Faculty of Philology, Moscow State University (1971). Graduated from Graduate School, VINITI (Russian Institute of Scentific and Technological Research), Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1978), adviser – Prof. V. A. Uspensky.

Ph.D. in Philology («Kandidat of Philology», 1985, Faculty of Philology, Moscow State University). Thesis: «Logical and semantic analysis of natural language vocabulary (using the case of verbs with propositional actant, performative verbs and qualitative adjectives)».

Post-Ph.D. in Philology («Doctor of Philology», 2005, Institute for Language Study of the Russian Academy of Sciences). Thesis: «Logical-cognitive and stylistic aspects of semantics of modal words».

 

Professional Experience
Works at Moscow State University since 1971; junior researcher (1971-1980), researcher (1981-1991), senior researcher (1991-2001), leading researcher (2002-present), Automated Lexicographic (Linguistic) Systems Laboratory.

 

Research Interests
Research interests include, in the sphere of general and theoretical linguistics, logical analysis of language, cognitive analysis, lexical semantics, stylistics, contrastive linguistics – comparative analysis of Russian and French languages, translation theory.

Also works in applied linguistics: linguistic aspects of artificial intelligence, problems of describing vocabulary through concrete models.

 

Teaching Experience
Teaching in the Faculty of Philology, Moscow State University since 1987: initially in the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, then in the Department of French and German Philology. Taught over 10 required and special courses, and directed over 20 undergraduate research papers and theses. Advises several Ph.D. candidates.

 

Publications
Published over 50 works, including two monographs.
